We All Winn Mentoring Program and the We All Winn Second Chance Mentoring Program

The mission of the We All Winn Mentoring Program is to empower
at-risk youth in our community to make positive life choices that
enable them to maximize their personal potential. Through
collaborative programming with schools and other community-based
organizations, staff will provide educational, social and mentoring
opportunities to enhance the academic performance, social, and
community connections, and career options of the youth.
The year 2009 marked a time of expansion for the We All Winn
(WAW) Mentoring Program to include extending their services to
"second chance" youth in Shreveport, LA. The main objective of this
program is to close the revolving penal door for juveniles and
encourage them to reassess and the behaviors that made them active
participants in the juvenile justice system and make better life
sustaining choices when they are out by offering them a "second
chance." We will offer them services that will; help combat the
academic achievement gap that exist between minorities and their
more affluent peers, bolster their job readiness and employability,
that will result in them reducing their tendency to opt to choose
to act on risky behaviors that may send them back to the juvenile
justice system. Several of our
program components include positive mentoring relationships with
adult role models, academic assistance, career exploration,
parental engagement, and psychological counseling.
The We All Winn (WAW) Mentoring Program will service
approximately 50 youth per year that reside in the
Shreveport/Bossier area. Our goals are to increase the academic
achievement/GED completion/Graduation rates of the program
participants, reduce/eliminate truancy incidents, disciplinary
referrals resulting in suspensions, strengthen bonds to family and
community, reducing gang involvement and potential for violence.
Our progress will be measured through academic progress tracking,
attendance and participation in program and school, along with pre
and post surveys of youth, parents, mentors and other involved
staff.
